| Question for parents of school age guys 8-11. Video games and R rated movies...? My boys are 9 and 10 and I just feel that they're still too young and immature to watch R-rated movies and play M (Mature) games on the X-Box. I let them play some T (Teen) games and watch some PG-13 movies, but when their friends come over I hear them asking the boys, hey have you seen such and such movie yet? Or; Why can't we play such and such game? It seems like all the boys in my 10 year old's class all are able to play M games and watch R-rated movies. Even my husband isn't really on my side with this, although he does most of the time support me on it. If any of you out there are parents of this age of guyren, when do you all think is a good time, or the "right" time for them to be able to watch/play that kind of junk? I wanna protect my guys, but I don't want them to be the only ones in their class that can't do those things. My 10 year old's best friend would rather not even come over here because he can't play the games he wants. Ugh, I just don't know... |
| You're doing a great job, there is no reason for a 9/10 year old guy to watch movies/play games that are intended for people 17+. If you let them do something because "all of their friends are" now, it'll be the same thing in the future when "all of my friends are allowed to drink and party!". As for the "right time", I think that at around 14 letting guys watch certain R rated movies is okay (If you know the content beforehand and it doesn't seem too over the top). |
